LEMTool (Layered Emotion Measurement Tool)
The project is about developing a web based measurement tool to measure emotions during interactions with websites. This is a long sentence with many important words, but it’s basically about an appliance that helps web designers improve the user experience. A better experience will satisfy the user and will most likely improve his or her thoughts and certainly feelings about the owner of the website. All of this results in trust, loyalty, credibility, profitability and returning customers that are willing to purchase products.
The ‘L’ in LEM stands for Layered; which is an important characteristic of the tool. It means the tool is running at a second transparent layer - above the website. The tool is tracking the user’s movements and will at given moments ask the user for information. The user is also able to communicate his observations autonomously to the tool. Hence, the user is actually interacting with two layers simultaneously: the basic website and the tool. However, the tool is as invisible as possible to the user; trying to avoid influence over the user experience.
The LEMTool logs all action which someone undertakes, as a result of which emotions can be related to specific moments in an interaction. The results will be directly transparent after each session and in a later stage the Tool will advice on design improvements.
Monito
The Tool is being developed for Monito. Monito is a creative and innovative organisation that offers advice, design and implementation of corporate and experience design and internet applications for local government, research institutions, and companies.
One of the three partners of Monito (Marco) is the person behind www.design-emotion.com and that’s the reason this blog is a spin-off of his site.
The Blog
The blog is meant as a diary for my final project to finish my Master degree in Industrial Engineering. I’ll try to translate my thoughts and research in posts to show the development progress. It’s a way to organize my mind and shape my research for the report I have to produce in order to graduate.
Last thing I’d like to mention is that I welcome any feedback from you to make this tool as good as possible. There’s a lot of knowledge about this subject that I can’t possibly master within the given time of this assignment. So I hope this blog will provoke comments and discussions that will shape the process and eventually the tool.
succes met je afstuderen, en tot ooit…..
