Hi Daniel,
Good story. I agree that due to the fact that the power is at the consumers' side, customization will become even more important in the future. The picture you give of the short life-cycle of (new) products is indeed a reality. Nevertheless, if we talk about 'emotions', I think there may be a different trend then the one you described. If (I say IF) sustainability and environmental questions become more and more a part of people's lives, consumers will start to seek for very different 'kicks'. Short highs won't gratify us as much emotionally anymore.
What would make me very happy are products that have some kind of 'basis' which you could update according to the latest needs. And then I ALSO refer to tech-products (pda's, laptops, cell phones, etc).
I like the trend you describe with many new and creative ideas for improving products and services. It would be great if these new products/ services are designed 'for life'.

I feel that consumer culture will change greatly in the future. It will become a race for each company to lure in consumers. They will have to gain consumers as quickly as possible and make sure that they stay. In order to do this they will have to customize their products in order to fulfill the consumer.
By doing this they will have to offer superior design and quality. They will constantly be competing with the market on their quality and price. This will lead to an outstanding amount of innovation and newer and better things will constantly be filling the market.
Major companies will be spending billions on finding ways to create products that will adapt to the consumer. They will have to offer great value to the consumer because the market will be so large that their will be a product for every type of consumer. The consumer will start to gain leverage over the companies because there will be so many different companies inventing new products. There will be many new entrepreneurs coming up with new and improved products and services. This will lead to many new and creative ideas.
Due to all of this new product design products will have a much shorter life-cycle. Products will be pulled from shelves almost as fast as they got their. Everything will constantly be changing. As they say a neighbor always has to keep up with the Jones’.
Companies will also design products with greater safety and security than ever before. They will have to use this as another form of leverage to compete in the business world. They will have to offer the best customer service in order to make consumers comfortable and happy with their decisions.
